    Notes:

    4th son of Rev. Joseph Gibbs of Clifton Hampden. Baptised 26 October 1842 at Wraxall. Educated at Marlborough College, 1857-9, matric. Oxford (Exeter College), 18 October 1862, BA and student at Cuddesdon Theological College, 1867. Buried at Clifton Hampden. Memorial Inscription in churchyard there and Memorial window in Hutton Church. Will dated 23 August 1874.

    Deacon 1867; Priest 1868. Curate of Hambledon, Bucks., 1867-9; Rector of Hutton, Somerset (for which Living he was nominated under the will of his uncle George Gibbs, 1869 till 1895, when he resigned and retired to Oxford.

    2nd son. Born 8 December 1887 and baptised at Hutton. Educated at Haileybury College 1902-3, but left because his back was broken playing rugger and was thereafter educated privately.

    In the Great War volunteered for the Army 5th August 1914 and served in Training Corps and in civilian war work, but owing to ill-health was always refused admission to the Army. He owned Rietfontein Citrus farm afsd. and lived there 1920-9.

    In the firm of Leonard Partridge, dealer in Works of Art, of 3 Savile Row, Westminster, 1929-32. Joined the firm of Peter Jones, Sloane Square, firstly in the Interior Decorating Dept., and then in due course becoming the firm's Assistant General Manager.

    1941-45 working for the Foreign Office in Dublin. After the Second World War became a partner in an antique shop in Victoria, London, S.W.I.

    Joseph married Hon. Dorothy Annesley on 27 Jul 1921 in Holy Trinity, Sloane Street, Chelsea, London. Dorothy (daughter of Arthur Annesley, 11th Vicount Valentia and Laura Sarah Webb) was born on 11 May 1892 in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire; died in 1985 in England; was buried in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire.
