- Being persecuted on account of his religion, upon the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes by Louis XIV, in 1685, he fled from Orange, where he was established as a merchant in the Netherlands. When peace was re-established, consequent upon the Treaty of Ryswick, he returned to the Principality Orange; but, war having broken out anew, he left his native country a second time in 1703 and settled in Orbe in Switzerland.
