      1909-19.

      In the Great War he served with the Dover Patrol 1914-15 as Captain of Destroyer Crusader and took part in the bombardment of the German Army left wing from the Coast: served with the Harwich Force 1915-18 in Destroyers Matchless, Medea and Thruster. Was Captain 2nd in command of Royal Naval Coll. Dartmouth 1919-21. Commanded H.M.S. Bryony (Commander-in-Chief s yacht) Mediterranean Fleet, 1921-3. Member of the Royal Victorian Order 1911. Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1916. Mentioned 4 times in Despatches (13 April 1915, 25 July 1916, 22 June 1917, 7 Jan. 1918). 1914 Star, Brit. War Medal and Allies' (Victory) medal of the Great War.
