- Baptised 28 December 1895 at Meerut. Educated at Cheltenham College, 1909-13 and Royal Military College, Sandhurst, 1917 (prize Cadet).
He played both for Cheltenham and Sandhurst at cricket and hockey. 2nd Lieut. Indian Army 5th August 1914, attached to 4th Dublin Fusiliers: temp. Lieut. December 1914, he went to the Great War in France with the Royal Irish Regt.: invalided in 1915 he rejoined the Indian Army Dec. 1915 as Lieut. 6th Royal Jat Light Infantry (now 1st Bn. 9th Jat Regt.): Capt. 1918: served in Mesopotamia 1918 and was invalided with typhoid fever: A.D.C. to Major General Sir Arthur Scott commanding Lucknow Division 1919: rejoined 6th Jat. L.I. on North West Frontier 1919 and was adjutant to the Regiment and on active service in Waziristan 1921-23: retired from Indian Army May 1923. Held the 1914-15 Star, British war medal and Allies' (Victory) medal of the Great War and the Indian Frontier medal with clasp.

He and his wife were living in 1932 at Dover Cottage, Hightown Rd., Roehampton. 1 daughter: Gillian Iris, b. 19 Dec. 1927.
