Edward married Ethel Arabella Averill on 16 Jun 1897. Ethel (daughter of Octavius Averill and Emma Louisa Peacey) was born on 27 Jul 1874 in Tetbury, Gloucestershire; died on 5 Aug 1954 in Clanwilliam, Manitoba, Canada; was buried in All Saints Anglican Church, Clanwilliam, Manitoba, Canada. Notes:

Born February 17, 1827. His parents were Charles Crawley (of Littlemore) and Eliza Catherine Grimes.

While the family was living in Highgate he attended St Aloysius College during 1841 census
In Oxford he attended Exeter College, matriculated June 4 1846; B.A. 1835; M.A. 1853

War service: Served in the Oxfordshire Militia in Corfu during the Crimean War. Listed as a Lieutenant, June 19, 1854

In 1857 Charles Edward was married firstly to Maria Walter Scott Wilson and there were two children from that marriage: Charles William Scott Crawley (1858-1938) and Margaret Laura Scott Crawley (1860-1938). Maria died in April 1862 and was buried in the Crawley family plot at St. Mary and St. Nicholas Church in Littlemore.

On April 23, 1867 in Abingdon, Berkshire, he married secondly, Mary Ann (Marion) Karop, daughter of George Charles Karop and Mary Ann. She had been the governess to his two children during the illness of his first wife.

1861 Census: 64 East Hill, Wandsworth, London
Charles and his two children are living with his mother-in-law and her already large household (including 8 servants). Maria does not appear in the census, though she is still alive. The staff includes two nurses so perhaps she is already very ill. The census taker has clearly been confused by the complex relationships and has mistakenly included Sophia and Matilda with the Crawley family, but they are actually Wilson family members.

1871 Census: 2 Eliot Hill, Lewisham, London
When the census was conducted on April 2, Charles and Marion were living at 2 Elliot Hill in Lewisham awaiting the birth of their first child, Edward Robert John (Jack) who would be born a few months later on July 25. Also living in the house were Charles' children from his first marriage, Charles (age 13) and Margaret (age 10).

1881 Census: 4 Kensington Hall Terrace, Fulham, London (no longer exists) the family has moved to Fulham. Charles and Marion's second son George (known as Eric) is now 7 years old. Charles Edward and Margaret are both away at the time of the census, and appear as visitors elsewhere.

1891 Census: 65 North End Road, Fulham, London
Charles is shown as a boarder, living separately from his wife and family.

Death and burial
Died 1893, Fulham, London. Buried in the Crawley family plot at St. Mary and St. Nicholas Church in Littlemore.

Charles married Mary Ann Karop on 23 Apr 1867 in Abingdon, Berkshire. Mary was born in 1841 in London; died on 10 Jun 1914. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Octavius married Emma Louisa Peacey. Emma was born in 1849 in Crudwell, Wiltshire; died on 6 Feb 1915 in Cowichan Station, Cowichan Valley, British Columbia, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Charles (1st son), born at Whitestone, Devon, 25 September, 1788; educated at Rugby School (entered 1797); matric Oxford (Univ. College) 26 June 1807; 2nd Cl. Classics School and B.A. 1811; married 14 May 1825 Eliza Catherine, daughter of Abraham Grimes (for which family see the book Antony & Dorothea Gibbs by J.A. Gibbs, p. 377 n6); died 30 September 1871 at his house (now called Lawn Upton and (1931) in the ownership of Lord Wraxall of Chart XVIII) in Littlemore, Oxon, and was buried at Littlemore. He was in Antony Gibbs & Sons 1814-46, and a partner 1820-38 (in Spain for them 1818-19, in Chile and Peru for them 1828-33). A director of the London Assurance Corporation, 1842-65. A member of the Club 'Nobody's Friends' 1813-71. Alternate patron with Oriel College, Oxford, of the living of Littlemore, to the church of which (built in 1835 by his friend, Rev. John H. The eldest child of his only child, Charles Edward, was William Scott Crawley of Charlbury, Oxon. (b. 1858).

Charles married Eliza Katherine Grimes on 14 May 1825 in Churchover, Warwickshire. Eliza (daughter of Abraham Grimes and Mary Cholmley) was born on 4 Jan 1795 in Coton House, Churchover, Warwickshire; died on 11 Nov 1881 in Littlemore, Oxfordshire. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
