Obituary Pulteney Mein

The death of Mr. Pulteney Mein removes from our midst one of the oldest settlers in Western Riverina. He and his brother, the late Dr. G. A. Mein, purchased Moolpa Station, comprising Liewah and Kerri Keri, in 1862. In 1873 Liewah was sold to the late Mr Creswick, father of the present owner, and in 1877 Keri Keri was sold to the late Mr. John Cumming. The firm of Messrs. G. A. and P. Mein became the owners of Boorooma Station on the Barwon in the seventies, and later on they acquired Herbert Downs and Gilmore Stations in Queensland, and Woodsley Downs and Kiwi in New Zealand. At the dissolution of the partnership in 1897 Mr. Pulteney Mein purchased at auction Moolpa and Boorooma, and last year took his son, Mr. W. Pulteney Mein, into partnership. Mr. Mein was of a retiring, unassuming disposition, and did not take an active part in public affairs, but he gave a loyal support, and was a liberal contributor to all deserving pastoral movements. He was a man of sterling character whose friendship was greatly appreciated by all who had the privileges of it.
